Welcome, brave adventurers, to The Quest! Prepare for a fantastical journey where trails meet riddles, dice decide your fate, and bosses await your challenge. Whether you’re embarking on The Dawnlight or The Gilded Grove, your adventure will be full of wonder, challenges, and laughs. Here’s everything you need to know to conquer The Quest!

 SPELLBOOK GUIDE

The Quest is a fantasy-themed running adventure where you'll explore trails, solve riddles, scavenge hunt, and battle mythical bosses using a 20-sided dice. Here's how it all comes together:

  1. Choose Your Adventure: You can choose from The Gilded Grove (6 Mile Run) or The Dawnlight (16 Mile Run). Each have different routes and order of bosses, a map will be given to you.

  2. Choose Your Class: Roll a D20 dice at check-in to determine your class (Frog Knight, Warrior, Mage, or Knight). Your class affects how well you fare against certain bosses.

  3. Scavenger Hunt: Along the way, take pictures of special items from the hunt list. Turn them in to bosses for “rewards” that help you at the final battle.

  4. Battle Bosses: When you find a boss, roll your dice to determine your score. Adjust your score based on your class's strengths or weaknesses against that boss. The final score determines how easy or tricky the next clue will be.

  5. Face the Final Boss: Finish your journey by battling the mighty Dragon at the end of the run. Use everything you’ve collected (and some good dice rolls) to emerge victorious!

    • When: Saturday, March 8th, 2025

      • Check-in: 10:30 AM at The Station Public House, Auburn, CA.

      • Start Time: 11:00 AM sharp for all distances.

      • Finish Time: All adventurers must return to The Station Public House by 4:30 PM.

    • Where: Auburn, CA (starting and ending at The Station Public House).

    • Cost: $27 (includes entry, post-run beer, and a t-shirt).

    • Aid Station: Open 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM

  • Required personal gear:

    • Backpack / Pack: needed for holding onto your scavenger hunt rewards

    • Phone: needed for taking pictures of scavenger hunt items

    • Water Bottle: needed for basic health

    You’ll receive:

    • D20 Dice (Pre-Run): used for class roll and against bosses

    • Crude Map (Pre-Run): used for mapping your path

    • Colored Bracelet (Pre-Run): used for identifying your class

    • The Quest! T-Shirt (Post Run): used for pride and looking great

    • Beer / Cider (Post Run): used for added health

  • Before setting out, roll a D20 dice to determine your class:

    • Roll 1-2: Frog Knight

      • Strong Against: Ghosts, Dragons

      • Weak Against: Wizards, Trolls, Fairies

    • Roll 3-10: Warrior

      • Strong Against: Wizards, Fairies

      • Weak Against: Trolls, Ghosts, Dragons

    • Roll 11-18: Mage

      • Strong Against: Trolls, Fairies

      • Weak Against: Wizards, Ghosts, Dragons

    • Roll 19-20: Knight

      • Strong Against: Wizards, Trolls, Fairies, Dragons

      • Weak Against: Ghosts

    Participants who dress up in fantasy attire may get a +3 or -3 to their class roll prior to starting the run. This can help to pick between two classes of your choice. For example, if you roll a 16 (Mage) you may choose to add +3 to your roll and get a 19 (Knight).

  • Turn in photos into each boss from the following categories (up to 3 items per boss). You’ll be given a reward for each proven photo, KEEP THESE REWARDS:

  • Bosses are hidden along each path. Riddles will be given to you to find the next boss. When you find a boss:

    1. Roll your D20 dice to determine your initial score.

    2. Adjust your score based on class strengths/weaknesses against that boss.

    3. Your final score determines the level of riddle or clue you’ll receive to find the next boss.

      • Bad (0-6): A confusing and cryptic clue.

      • Okay (7-12): A vague but helpful riddle.

      • Good (13-19): A clear and useful hint.

      • Great (20): A direct and straightforward answer.

  • Back at The Station Public House, face the mighty Dragon! Turn in your collected rewards, roll your dice, and hope your bravery and cunning are enough to claim victory!

    A Hero’s Farewell
    Celebrate your triumph with a post-quest beer or cider and a commemorative t-shirt! Regardless of the outcome, you’re a true hero for taking on The Quest.

The Dawnlight

A grueling adventure for seasoned adventurers seeking glory. Navigate the lands, battle fierce bosses, and uncover hidden secrets.

The route will remain a secret till event day. 16 miles minimum with upwards of 1500ft of elevation gain.

The Gilded Grove

A beginner-friendly quest for those looking to dip their toes into adventure. Perfect for first-time heroes or anyone craving a whimsical journey.

The route will remain a secret till event day. 6 miles minimum with upwards of 500ft elevation gain.

TAVERN STOP

There will be a secret mid run tavern stop on course for adventurers to gather and rest. Grab free water, snacks, or simply enjoy a moment with fellow adventurers!

The tavern will be open between 12:00PM and 2:00PM.
